The JAMA SBU 8000 scaler has become a common piece of equipment at many mining operations in Sweden and Ireland. This mechanical scaler was developed by Contector in conjunction with mining companies and the Luleå University of Technology and represents their flagship piece of equipment. In fact, the unit won the 2009 Mining Magazine Award in the category Underground Mining (Hard Rock) – Ancillary and Analysis. It is suitable for operations that require faster scaling rates or safer scaling procedures. Overall , the unit was developed with comfort in mind which allows the operator to scale from a safe distance under the best possible conditions. The chassis of the vehicle is strong and powered by an all-wheel-drivetrain and a 6 cylinder turbo charged diesel engine. Also, the unit can reach tramming speeds of up to 30km/hr making this a very mobile machine (once set-up, the unit can be run on a electric-hydraulic system).
